Cake:
- 1 box chocolate fudge cake mix
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup Dr Pepper (not diet)
Frosting:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
- Make the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate fudge cake mix, cherry pie filling, eggs, vanilla extract, and Dr Pepper. Stir gently until all ingredients are well incorporated, taking care not to overmix to keep the cake tender.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean when the cake is done.
- Prepare the Frosting: While the cake bakes, melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the cocoa powder and milk until smooth and well combined.
